FC Pro Open - Super Matchweek 1 - Review
Two huge nights of matches kicked off this season's FC Pro Open
November 26

The first major competition of the new FC Pro season roared into life with the FC Pro Open Super Matchweek 1. Over two nights of elite FC matches we saw players from groups A and B begin their tournaments.

Two Perfect Starts

Two players achieved a perfect start to their campaign by securing five wins from five.

Vejrgang was dominant throughout Matchday 1, picking up convincing victories in Group A and bringing the unpredictable energy that only the defending FC Pro Open Champion can.

Meanwhile in Group B, Emre Yilmaz showed that he is quite possibly the most resilient FC Pro player, by winning three matches from losing positions.

Both flawless players sit atop of their respective groups on 15 points.

Group A

Years In The Making - Vejrgang v Tekkz

As soon as we saw that Tekkz had been drawn into Group A alongside Anders Vejrgang, we knew we would finally see Vejrgang vs. Tekkz in an FC Pro competition - something the community has wanted for years.

Fast-forward to Round 2 of Group A, we finally had the two players sitting across from one another, ready to play.

Both players started strong, but after an intense battle it was the defending FC Pro Open Champion who prevailed. Vejrgang beat Tekkz 9-3, with both players in good spirits at full time.

Yaskow’s Impressive Debut

This season’s FC Pro Open welcomed several new faces, one being Yaskow. The 21-year-old qualified through the Global Qualifier and, despite losing his opening match to Vejrgang, he bounced back brilliantly by winning his remaining four matches. This left the Clermont Foot 63 player in a strong position in the group.

Mixed Fortunes For The Rest of Group A

The rest of Group A saw wins and losses being shared between Tuga, Tekkz and Lukas. All picking up points and putting themselves in contention for a run at the Knockout Stages.

The player with the biggest hill to climb is LJR Peixoto. Last season’s FC Pro Open runner-up had a torrid time, losing all five of his matches. However, in last season’s competition we saw KTzn recover from a poor first gameweek to reach the Knockout Stage, so there is still hope for LJR.

Group B

World Champ v European Champ - ManuBachoore v Emre Yilmaz

Two of FC Pro’s most decorated players - Team Liquid’s ManuBachoore and Emre Yilmaz faced off in Group B in an all-action thriller. Emre once again showcased his resilience, coming from behind to defeat the current World Champion 8-3.

Umut Settles Into Second

For the third consecutive season, RBLZ Gaming’s Umut has reached the FC Pro Open and he made a strong start in Group B. The former World Champion opened with a 4-4 draw against Obrun, then secured wins against ManuBachoore, Caccia, and Darkley11. His only defeat came at the hands of Emre Yilmaz, leaving Umut second in Group B on 10 points.

It’s All Still To Play For

With Emre Yilmaz leading the charge and Umut creating separation in the table, the rest of the group battled it out for points. With ManuBachoore securing two wins, Obrun ended the evening with one win and two draws. While Darkley11 got a win and a draw to his name, Caccia sits at the bottom of Group B, but did manage to win one game. It seems that every point will be crucial and hard-earned in Group B as we await the new year.
