There was a huge sense of anticipation before the return of Group B in this season’s FC Pro Open. With Matchday 6 set to be one of the most unpredictable of the tournament, some of FC Pro’s most in-form players were primed to clash in a series of must-see matchups. With three places in the FC Pro Open Finals on the line and automatic qualification to the FC Pro World Championship awaiting the group winner the stakes could not have been higher.
Emre picks up 10 points and place in the World Championships
On Matchday 2 Emre Yilmaz went 5 for 5 in Group B, leaving him in prime position to top the group. On Matchday 6, Emre didn’t need to have another perfect night, he just needed to remain strong and consistent.
The Dutchman had a less than ideal start, losing to his Team Liquid teammate ManuBachoore 9-3 and then drew 7-7 against Obrun. From there, Emre kicked into a higher gear and won his remaining three matches. Beating Umut 6-3, Darkley11 9-7 and Caccia 9-8.
By winning the 10 points he ended Group B on top with 25, granting him a place at the FC Pro World Championship and a spot in the FC Pro Open Quarter-Finals.
The Unpredictable Battle For Third
Every FC Pro Open Group has three qualification spaces for the Finals, and with there being six players in every group, competition for those places was always going to be fierce. In Group B the final round of matches was fascinating. Three players were in contention for third place, ManuBachoore, Obrun and Darkley11 could all clinch the last place in the Finals depending on results.
ManuBachoore and Obrun faced-off in a key match, where a win for Manu would end the group with the World Champion in third. Obrun winning would only see the Italian progress if in that game by scoring 15 more goals than Manu - and if Darkley11 lost his final match versus Umut.
Obrun, last season’s FC Pro Open Runner-up, claimed a 6-3 victory against ManuBachoore. Unfortunately, the lack of goals scored was not enough to go ahead with both players on 12 points, but Manu was ahead on goals scored. The final whistle in that match blew before the conclusion of another decisive Group B clash: Umut vs. Darkley11.
With Manu’s fate temporarily unresolved, Darkley11 knew a win against Umut was essential to leapfrog both rivals and claim the final qualification spot. As Manu watched on nervously, Darkley11 put in a spirited performance, trading the lead with Umut in a fast-paced, end-to-end contest.
But in the closing moments, Umut struck to make it 7–5, extinguishing Darkley11’s qualification hopes and confirming ManuBachoore’s place in the FC Pro Open Finals.
This was a huge result for Manu, as it would mean he would finally make it to the Finals of the competition for the first time.
Umut Brings The Good Vibes
An everpresent in the FC Pro Open, Umut again showcased his style and talent during Matchday 6. In Group B, he began the day in second place on 10 points, qualification well within his grasp and an outside chance of securing first place.
The former World Champion had a day to remember, winning four out of his five matches, which included a huge 12-5 victory against Caccia. The only match he lost in Matchday 6 was against Emre Yilmaz, who beat him 6-3.
In the final round of matches, Umut played a huge part in deciding who would qualify for the finals, but by watching him, you wouldn’t know it. If Umut was to be defeated by Darkley11, Darkley11 would have progressed over ManuBachoore. However the German was not interested in the qualification drama unfolding around him and just played his game in a seemingly chilled manner. Victory for Umut was secured in injury time when he made the score 7-5.
Can Umut take his relaxed outlook all the way to the FC Pro Open title?
