eChampions League Group stage: 3 things we learned

EA SPORTS FC fans were treated to an incredible weekend of action as the eChampions League Group stages began in London, England.

It would be an understatement to say that the competition started off with a bang as every game had its fair share of drama and incredible moments.

We’ve picked out three key things that made this year’s eChampions League Group stage one to remember.

Favourites fumble

The eChampions League is known for providing plenty of shock upsets, but this weekend saw some huge names crash out of the competition during the Group stage.

ePremier League 2024 champion Tekkz failed to register a win in Group A, losing games to Ekmenn94 and Neat en route to his early exit. Many pegged the talented Manchester City player to have a big run in the competition, but he couldn’t seem to find his rhythm.

It was even more shocking to see eChampions League 2022 champion Nicolas99fc get knocked out of the tournament. The Argentinian had 1-2-1 record after four games, losing to Hamrun Spartans FC’s Brandsha and and Red Bull Leipzig’s Levyfinn.

eDivisie dominates

FC players competing in The Netherlands had a fantastic showing in the eChampions League Group stage, with PHzin, Levi de Weerd, Manu Bachoore and Emre Yilmaz all topping their groups.

PHzin, Manu and Emre topped their groups with 100% win streak, as all three players head into the Knockout stage with some serious momentum. It was slightly more difficult for Levi de Weerd as the Ajax player had the same amount of points as AndoniiPM and HHezerS.

However, he was able to top the group on goal difference to ensure all four Dutch players made it through to the next stage of the competition.

Marley’s miracle

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Marley had it all to do in his final Group stage game. A loss would knock him out of the competition, but if he was able to defeat Nacho Abella by four goals he’d squeeze his way into third place.

Despite the odds being against him, Marley was able to secure a dramatic late-goal that lockedin his spot in the Knockout stage. It was a tremendous achievement for the ePremier League star whose coaches erupted with happiness around him when the goal went in.
